I will praise You, for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made... Psalm 139:14
I am against abortion! The Bible teaches that God not only determines human life, but God also values
human life. King David said: "You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother's womb,"
Psalms 139:13 GNB. Isaiah 49:5 reads: "Before I was born, the LORD appointed me; he made me his
servant to bring back his people to bring back the scattered people of Israel. The LORD gives me honor;
he is the source of my strength."
Jeremiah 14:5 reads: "The Lord said to me, 'I chose you before I gave you life, and before you were born I
selected you to be a prophet to the nation.'" Paul the Apostle knew that God chose him even before he
was born (Galatians 1:15). Just think how many godly leaders, inventors, prophets, priests and potentially
fervent evangelists have been aborted. Here’s a mixed message: Just think, what the world would be like
if the mother and fathers of our current pro-abortion “leaders” had exercised their “right” to kill their
unborn child?
A loving and godly woman, Mother Teresa, said, "It is poverty to decide that a child must die so that you
may live as you wish."
During my undergraduate training in zoology and biology, I fertilized sea urchin ova with spermatozoa. I
observed cell division and embryonic development. Sadly enough, I extrapolated and accepted the
embryonic "mass of tissue" idea about human beings. God expressed His grace by not testing my errant
thinking at that time. His grace abounds to all who accept. A former pastor, Jonathan, preached a sermon
on this issue. That sermon brought the facts together in such a way that God clearly corrected the error in
my thinking. This occurred over a decade ago.
The book of Ecclesiastes (3:2) says it is appointed once for a person to die. I am opposed to the taking of
a person's life. Euthanasia is a violation of God's direction.
The two ends of the life span continuum come together under the rubric of sanctity of life. When we value
life, we identify with others; others are like ourselves, not different. We then do not harm others for our
own gain. When we devalue others and view our “superiority” as a license to manipulate others we are
self-deceiving. Many social ills have followed from this stance of devaluing humans, e.g., slavery, the
holocaust, marketing body parts from unwilling subjects, etc. The devaluation of the life of others leads to
self service at the expense of others. It leads to additional social ills such as crimes of identity theft,
getting paid for a job that was not done completely, falsifying records, embezzlement, robbery, murder, just
to name a few. Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God….Love your neighbor as you love yourself.”
We herein have a duty to behave in a way that enhances others. A better society flows naturally from this
principle.
What many of us don’t realize is that our tax dollars pay for abortion and that California has no restrictions on how many abortions a person could get or the circumstances in which the person got pregnant.
